On Monday it was toasty hot here in SD and the kids and I dragged the pool out for the first time. With only a few minor accidents we had a lot of fun. I would show you the pictures, but I am not sure what was a I thinking....3 kids under 4, water, and a camera=one expensive pool toy!
This week I have been teaching Bible school. I am teaching the 4th-6th graders. It is a nice change from the little ones. You can do so much more with older kids, you can dig a little deeper into the lesson. The kids are working hard on memorizing verses so they can earn the prize of a goldfish. I am sure all the parent's are going to love me! My prayer is that the students would see past all the cute decorations, the teachers and the fun songs and see the true Savior.
I am still trying to put my hands around the idea of Jackie not being here, but I am glad that I know that God is in control. I may never understand, but I do know that God has a plan and a future for all of us and it was Jackie and Sam's appointed time to meet their Savior. What a glorious day for them.

Jackie
Please pray for my college roommate and friend Jackie and her husband Sam's families. They were killed in a car accident yesterday. It is a tragic loss for their families. They were loved and will be missed!

Jacob and Julia
Julia goes to daycare with Jacob and they are the best of friends...the mommies are hoping that someday they might get married...but no pressure here...they can marry whoever God has for them, but for now they are the best of friends. Jacob cries when Julia leaves and when she comes they get SO excited to see each other they have to hug. They already are in trouble together...and come up with the best of "ideas" at 11 & 13 months. At lunch time they have their special little touch they share(they reach for each other and touch pointer fingers). Julia has even felt sorry for Jacob and dropped food off her tray to feed him because I forgot to he would want a snack too...(yep going for mother of the year!!) They are just so darn cute together!!

A little bit of everything
I have been bad at blogging lately just because I have been going, going going! This last Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, Julia and I headed to Minnesota for a conference and had the joy of visiting with my cousins! It was wonderful! I learned a lot at the conference and enjoyed my cousin and family.
David stayed at the home from with the boys..yep all 4 of them! What a dad! Nobody was hurt and the house was even clean (well clean for the Baker house!). D & A went to a relatives house so we are back to the 5 of us.
Julia went to the Doctor on Friday and her tubes were plugged, so they cleaned them out...but the doctor said that Julia's ears were some pretty tough looking ears. Friday night we went to LaDawn's and Justin's graduation. I can't believe the babies I took care of are now graduating high school and the eight grade. The ride home was TORCHER because I forgot a binky...and I most certainly did not let my child have a sucker in place of a binky to make the crying stop!
We celebrated Julia's 11 month birthday and Gage's 4 year old birthday. Justin and Gage's birthday's are a day apart so we had super with Justin and his family.
Julia is starting to stand by herself for about 3 seconds at a time and has developed quite the attitude! She is a women who knows what she wants and lets the world know it! Kathy labeled her scream as the teradactile scream and that is what it sounds like.
We have been at the park a lot lately and I most certainly did not let my child eat Cheetos after dipping them in the dirt at the park.
David had surgery yesterday on his leg (he had a clogged artery in his theigh). He has been slow to recover this time, but we have enjoyed having my Mom come and stay with us. I am done with school on Thursday and am looking forward to being home with my Many Small Children this summer. Watch out City Pool because here comes the Bakers!

Celebrating life!
Today we celebrated life. We remembered the Freeman family in our prayers today (http://www.kayleighannefreeman.blogspot.com) as they celebrated the life of their daughter who is their one pound miracle who went to be with the LORD on May 11th, 2009. Today was her celebration service. In her honor, pink balloons were released all over the world. 
As we remembered them we celebrated our family and the life that God has given us. David and I are VERY thankful for healthy children and enjoyed them at the park.

Tubes
BEFORE:
Julia has had numerous ear infections since January. I took her in on Monday for yet another ear infection and her pediatrician recommended we see an ENT. I called thinking it would be a month before we could get in to the ENT but they had an opening for Wednesday. This was wonderful because our deductible starts over on June 1st and we have had HUGE medical bills this year--so now for the surgery...could it possible be done in May too?? By the grace of God we got the last appointment in the whole month of May....today. So something that I thought would take months to get completed...got completed in 4 days! PRAISE GOD!!!! Julia is doing wonderfully! She is a totally different baby. She is back to babbling, exploring and eating! Again, PRAISE GOD for this blessing!

You know you are a foster parent when . . .
1)You open your garage door and passing cars stop, thinking all of the bikes, toys, and baby furniture means garage sale.
2)You go to a Foster Care meeting and everyone drives vans or station wagons, except for the small cars that belong to the social workers.
3)You get your exercise from walking or carrying the kids to time-out.
4)The K-Mart checker asks which school you are from, and you reply, ”We're a family.”
5)You spend more time with your washer and dryer than you do with your spouse.
6)Your heart is bigger than your brain.
7)Santa Claus gives you a key to a store and leaves milk, cookies, and Alka Seltzer for you.
8)You watch your 2-week placement go from crib to junior high.
9)You regard your toilet snake as a family pet.
10)Your local grocer tells you that if you ever move, he would like advance notice because he will have to lay off three employees.
11)Your personal stash of children’s clothing rivals that of the local Goodwill office.
12)The term “basically a good child with a few problems” doesn't mean the same thing coming from a caseworker as it does in the real world.
13)Saying goodnight resembles the end of the Waltons: ”Night, John Boy . . . Night, MaryEllen . . . Goodnight, Lizbeth, etc.”
14)Light switches, toilet handles, and door knobs last one year or less. Your idea of a “social life” is talking to the checkers at the local Wal-Mart.
This poem was sent to me as a foster parent a few years back. I laughed hysterically at it when I read. As the years have gone by I discovered how true it is. I was told on Tuesday that A and D would be leaving today...however, because my heart is bigger than my brain I said yes that they could stay just a little longer until they can find a suitable placement for them. So I am fearful that number 8 is going to come true...you will watch your 2 WEEK placement go from diapers to graduation. However, my social life has not yet gone to talking to the wal-mart checkers. David/Julia and I are on our way to Jeannine's wedding to enjoy some adult conversation (as well as the whirlpool)!!!
